"The Late Show"

The late show

One of the loco chicas is

pounding on the door, again

across the walkway from my door

and the open windows, all

facing the repetitious rhythms

of her solo performance, but

I don't care tonight, because

it's after 3 a.m. and I'm

just getting home, wide awake

and loose enough to love

just about everything about

the earth, and life here

in Mazatlan, my feet

fit the beach

the sun sings to my soul

but my ear is on that

panther I hear

in the shadows

across the way

The second floor apartment I stayed in during my time in Mazatlan faced the backside of the complex, and for my American senses it wasn't a tidy sight, although that had little affect on my overall mood, or view of my experiences therein. It was the front side of my apartment that supplied me with endless comings and goings of other Mexican patrons who lived there. That provided endless opportunities for capturing the energy that flowed with interactions and dramas that unfolded outside my door.
