"And Then the Lighting of the Lamps"

And Then the Lighting of the Lamps

Weathered by too much sun

    she sweeps her life's cobwebs

under a vanity heavy with books.

            She doesn't want to answer

                when he calls -

turns instead to say she's sorry,

that it will all work out once

someone turns on the battered lamp

in the darkest corner of the room
