"Luna Medianoche"

Luna Medianoche ~ (Midnight Moon)

     Gatita

black as night, folding

in on itself, with

wailing cries escaping

a frightened heart

lonely figure crouched

in a towering schefflera

in wait of protective love

not soon to come, for

four fretful nights the cries

unfolded around our own

sympathetic innocence

     Sauntering through the black

iron gate, our walled

serenity of hidden gardens of

green delights to fondle in

our memories wake, a

shadow dances along the

walk, lured by promise

of loving embrace, and

hunger needs yet fulfilled

without the need of hunt

     And in our world she

danced, of pleasure and

feline innocence, not

yet knowing the predatory

world surrounding each

breath of life, for

how could she know the

baying sounds brought

instinctual growls and

gnashing teeth's anticipation

a way of life in this

jungle land

     In our protective thoughts

to hold in comfort a

fragile being, who's

own fierce nature unknown to

us, in consuming delusions of

fear, comes out in

stalking prey on moonlit

hunts, as phantoms stalk the

stalker, our Luna

gentle soul who comes to

us instinctively, to

return again in the specter

of la luna medianoche
